Founded 35 years ago, Tayside Opera is based in Dundee, drawing members and audiences from a wide area in east central Scotland.

Rehearsals are normally held on Sunday evenings in Dundee West Church hall ( formerly Roseangle and Ryehill, opposite  Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art) at 7pm ( with an optional warm-up at 6.45pm) from early in the New Year, with a break roughly corresponding to the school summer holidays.

The Musical Director and Chorus Master have responsibility for conducting rehearsals for concerts and staged performances, and with the Orchestra secretary to engage an orchestra for the main production.

There are two accompanists who share the rehearsals.

The policy of the company is wherever possible to cast productions from the membership, with the option of employing professionals where necessary.

The Musical Director (Richard Johnston), Production Director (Tony Ellis), Chorus Mistress (Nancy Crook) and the accompanists are all employees of Tayside Opera.

Tayside Opera needs new members for all sections.

Singing opera is great fun, hard work and an enjoyable and rewarding hobby.

New members would be expected to audition ( music of your own choice ).

Successful candidates have the opportunity to sing opera with an orchestra for the first year for a fee of £15.
